Behind the Scenes, TWU
Preparations for welcoming our students to The Wedding University on Sunday morning, began early in the afternoon, on Saturday, as several of us met to assemble the 20 page "syllabus" folders and extensive gift bags to be given out the next day.
We finished this job about 10pm, which is when
John Woods, of Enhanced Lighting, and his drape and lighting crew were leaving San Francisco to drive to the Four Seasons, Silicon Valley. As it turned out, the crew worked all night, installing lighting, hanging chandeliers, and creating backdrops for the elaborate displays created by our design team.
Here John is using the lift to go up and adjust the red lanterns, which were a vital element of this design; it was about 6am, and his crew still had so much to do!
The finished display, ready for our students to arrive at 11am.
Nancy Liu Chin, and Gloria Tritasavit, 2 other members of our design team, spent the night at the hotel so they could work late, and get up early; as it turned out, they really didn't get any sleep at all! Their assistants arrived at 6am to help finish the designs begun by Gloria and Nancy during the night. Below is the table setting as the students saw it.
Creating an arrangement with hundreds of roses, and hydrangea, at the top of a 3 foot tall vase, required Nancy's tallest assistant, and a chair!
...but the effort definitely paid off! What an elegant display!
The fourth table design incorporated 2 very heavy chandeliers, which John rigged over the rich black, magenta and purple table setting, full of arching orchids, painstakingly wired together.
Here is the finished display...lots of bling, and popping with color!
One last behind the scenes shots is of Geoff White's assistant photographer, Eric, shooting one of the model couples we had doing casual modeling all day at the Wedding University. This shot in the Four Seasons will be a classy reminder of how, for one day, the hotel became a Wedding University Campus.
Here one of the model couples pose with me, Gabrielle Medrano, of Gabrielle's Bridal Boutique, who provided all of the gowns for our models, and Armando, of Get Your Do Up, who handled all of the hair and make up styling for each of the models. It should be noted that the groom in this photo is Gabrielle's son; she kept a close eye on this couple!

The Wedding University a huge success!
Yesterday was the launch of The Wedding University, held at the Four Seasons, Silicon Valley; over 125 "students" moved through the educational seminars and elegant food stations, to experience first hand:
"The Wedding University, an Afternoon of Elegance and Education".
Jubilee Lau and I are so grateful for the amazing support and encouragement we have received in the last 24 hours from couples who attended, as well as the professionals who volunteered their time to help us greet and care for the all the participants and teachers.

The Wedding University on Ritzy Bee!
The Wedding University, which I have been planning with Jubilee Lau, Julie Kendra, and Kelly Nelson, at the Silicon Valley Four Seasons Hotel, is less than a week away! The excitement is really growing, and just today The Ritzy Bee, one of the hippest wedding blogs in the country, posted an entry about us:

Pinkberry in San Diego
Today during a break from the Special Event Conference, Jubilee and I discovered the presence of Pinkberry in San Diego. She and Gloria had raved about Pinkberry yogurt, so we were really excited to see a brand new Pinkberry shop across from the Convention Center.
The shop is hip, friendly, and very simple...2 flavors of yogurt with toppings of all sorts and 2 flavors of smoothies. Believe me that is all you need! I have never had better yogurt or smoothies, and I am a yogurt hound...the flavor was rich, not too sweet or sour, and just plain satisfying.
Jubilee chose the original plain yogurt with mocci on top, and I tried the berry smoothie....by the first bite and sip we were hooked...already planning our trip back the next day!
The shop carries Italian-made toys and yogurt accessories, such as neon bowls with tall stems. I surprised Jubilee with a birthday gift from their selection, as a reminder of our good times in San Diego.

The Special Event Conference
Greetings from Sunny San Diego!
Several of my friends in the wedding industry invited me to join them for The Special Event...a national convention of event professionals, which is held each year in a different city across the country. Since San Diego is the location for The Special Event, 2009, it was the perfect opportunity for me to attend for the first time!

Jubilee Lau. Gloria Tritasavit, and I made plans in the Fall to attend the Conference, thinking January would be a very quiet time for us; we had not realized how much work would be coming our way as a result of preparing for the Wedding University. In fact, last week we questioned our sanity for planning to be away for a whole week; but now that we are here, we see how many great ideas we are bringing back to implement in the final stages of producing the Wedding University. This was actually the best time to come, and...... it is a lot of fun!

Nancy Liu Chin was one of the "Presenters" here today, and so we all had breakfast early and joined her for her 9am class on Marketing for Wedding Professionals...it was awesome!
Gloria Tritasavit, Nancy Liu Chin, Kevin's crutches, Kevin Chin, and Jubilee Lau at the Hotel Sofia Hotel, in San Diego. (Kevin broke a bone in his foot playing tennis, but is almost done with his crutches...Yea!!)
The Convention Center is located on the Marina in beautiful San Diego, so whenever there was a break, we were out walking, enjoying the beautiful weather, and the ice cream shop located conveniently just down promenade from us!
Jubilee chose Chocolate Fudge Brownie, and I chose Coffee Chip Buzz; we both were quite energized by all the sugar and caffeine as we walked back to the next session!
Jubilee and Gloria after our session with Sasha Souza, who shared with over 150 of us her passion, and trend setting theories for the use of color, and the "in" color/shade combinations she predicts for 2009.
After a full day of taking in the classes, becoming even more excited about our chosen profession, and the Wedding University, we accepted a ride back to our hotel in one of San Diego's well known Bicycle Rickshaws....we were really tired of being on our feet, so this was a great way to travel!
